If one compares statistics from the year 2000 and the early ninety’s, one can see that there has been a 400% increase in the number of individuals that are now over weight. One of the main reasons behind this is due to the number of technological advancements that have taken place which in effect have made our lives much easier. Even though technological advancements are known to have their benefits, it is important that one does not over look the draw backs that it brings along with it.

Nowadays, the youth is more concerned with playing video games and watching TV, rather than getting involved in physical activities. This is one of the reasons why many young individuals are facing a number of health related issues at such a young age. It is important that one tries to encourage the youth to get involved as much as they can in various recreational and sporting activities.
To fulfill this goal, there are many approaches that one can adopt. A popular approach that has been widely appreciated by various health institutions is making sports a compulsory subject at school level. This in effect will ensure that a teenager is at least involved in one sport if not more.
Other ways by which you can get the youth involved in recreational and sporting activities is by promoting contests at community level. Try getting the youth of your community to make a team in various popular sports so that you can compete against other neighboring communities
Remaining persistent in getting the youth to participate in various sporting activities is very important to ensure that future generations do not follow the same path.
